According to a new study reported at the ASPS annual meeting, it certainly can.
Plastic surgeons studied 322 liposuction/tummy tuck patients (only 22 percent were obese) and found an interesting result 3 months post-surgery: their triglyceride levels dropped an average of 43 percent!
Too-high triglyceride levels are a major risk factor for heart disease, which is why these findings are so surprising.
But don't expect to see "heart healthy liposuction" offers any time soon. Many plastic surgeons and cardiologists believe that more research needs to be done, and doesn't recommend that patients undergo liposuction to prevent heart disease.
