Changing the Face of Plastic Surgery: Mitch Hunter's Full-Face Transplant

Mitch Hunter: Pre-accident, his injuries, and post-face transplant.
Mitch Hunter is the third American in medical history to receive a face transplant. A team of 30 reconstructive plastic surgeons and nurses lead by Dr. Bohdan Pomahac at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston performed the revolutionary surgery.

The new face was donated by a deceased man's family, who wish to remain anonymous.

Hunter's major facial features including his eyelids, nose, lips and jaw were replaced and reconstructed in a 14-hour surgery. Today Hunter is in recovery, but is thrilled with the results. He could only find one world to describe his new face: amazing.
